Date night at LOKAL

Last week John and I were invited to try out dinner at one of our favorite brunch spots LOKAL in Greenpoint Brooklyn.  When I got the email I was thrilled, not only because I'm so obsessed with the brunch at Lokal and had not yet had the privilege of trying out their dinner, but my little blog and a little previous post I did about Lokal actually grabbed their attention!!

In my last post about Lokal I raved about how great their brunch was, in particular their french toast, so when we ventured there for dinner we expected no less. And after last weeks date night at Son Cubano being a total bust, we were due for a really enjoyable meal. We were SO NOT disappointed. Its was as expected, perfect!

We started with fried calamari....YUM

For dinner I had meatball casserole which I had never heard of before, but it was absolutely divine! Sorta like a meatball stew. So perfect for the chilly weather we've been having here in NY.

John had homemade ricotta ravioli. I was lucky enough to taste one (lucky because I swear he wolfed that down so fast I barely saw the dish) and they were smooth and buttery and amazing!

For dessert we had a chocolate soufflé. Totally worth the calories. Of course the service was fantastic as well. If you live anywhere near Brooklyn or the L train you should def grab a bite at Lokal!

This post wouldn't be complete without a shot of my "look" for the evening.

It's great when you can find a place that you can call "your spot" and I think after finally trying the dinner John and I can officially call LOKAL "our spot". Interestingly enough, the first time we both expressed to each other that we were, in fact, IN LOVE, we had brunch there the next day, for the first time. SO really, it is our spot!! We'll be back for sure. Actually probably this Saturday, the day after my birthday for my favorite Brunch. :)

Minaudiere

min·au·dière

(mē-nōd-ˈyer)

A small ornamental case for a woman's cosmetics, jewelry, or personal items that is often carried as a handbag.

I'm totally loving these little ladylike, glitzy, glamorous, evening clutches. I wish I could start a mini collection of them but, unfortunately they are just not cheap at all...

I even love these cute kitschy Judith Leiber ones...I mean how can you resist that adorable piglet!!

This is a version I was lucky enough to spot randomly at a little boutique called "KARA" in the Garden State mall while shopping for some work samples. I instantly fell in love and purchased it for a mere $40.00. The only thing I'm still trying to get used to is packing light! So far my poor boyfriends pockets have been bulging with my lip glosses, mascara, cellphone, and wallet, you name it I beg him to carry it! Which is why I don't carry it often. I would drive him bonkers!

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPER SWEET COMMENTS ON MY RECENT POSTS! I'VE BEEN SMILING ALL WEEKEND!!!

Don't forget to enter my GIVEAWAY for a Justina Leigh Bracelet AND a mystery prize!!

Almost Ladylike...

I've been having a major obsession with ladylike blouses. Silk & chiffon loose fitting button front blouses are all I want to wear this fall!

Friday night the sweetie and I headed into the lower east side for some drinks with his brother, and one of my best friends. The weather was perfect for paring my new favorite dotted blouse from H&M with denim shorts and my over the knee socks, which kinda off set the ladylike-ness of the look.

Blouse - H&M, $24.90

Shorts - Forever 21, $17.90

Belt - Thrift Store, about $3.00

Over the knee socks - From two years ago bought on some random online site but you can get them at American Apparel for about $15.00

Boots - Forever 21, $34.90

Bag - Chanel Bought on Ebay

Necklace - Gold Key Charm Is my mothers, gold lighting bolt charm my bestie and I had made for each other back in college. Its engraved with "Lucky Star" on the back which was our little saying back then.

Wedding Attire

I hope everyone had a fantastic 4th of July weekend, and for those of you outside the USA I hope you had a fantastic weekend as well!!  I surely did! The boy and I had a wedding to attend and I really wasn't into buying a new dress for this one so I decided to wear my American Apparel convertible dress...here's how I put it together (side note due to the rushing and running around I TOTALLY forgot to have my boyfriend take pics of me in my outfit at the actual wedding, these were taken a day later oopsie!

My Vintage Dolce and Gabbana gold Mesh shoes

Black leather Chanel

Swarofki Crystal bracelet - A gift from the Boyfriend :)

The American Apparrel dress

John decided to stray from his usual skinny tie and wear a bow tie. It's Super trendy and I think he just looked fantastic! I wish more men would dress outside the typical box. BTW I learned how to tie the bow tie pretty damn good!!!

We had a lot of fun! :)

Sometimes I like to look like a cupcake....

I have an affair to attend the second week of July. I know that's a bit away but if you knew me you'd know I like to plan my outfits well in advance and if I don't I'm one cranky lady bc I always think I could have come up with something better had I given myself more time. So I've been perusing some shops here and there and this dress from the garden collection at H&M caught my eye. I love the dramatic pleats at the neckline but unfortunately the color is a blush pink which I feel is a bit inappropriate for a wedding rehearsal dinner, or any event that is in honor of the bride to be. But I couldn't see myself passing up this dress bc it was just my size! Then while rummaging through that messy closet of mine I spotted this puffy salmon colored skirt I've been dying to wear but havn't had the right event. My intention was to wear this skirt with a simple baggy screened tee but a thought popped in my head, that dress might look great worn as a top tucked into the skirt and a big belt to tone down the look! I have to say I'm quite pleased with the ensemble It reminds me of a cupcake! I can't wait to wear it in July!

Vintage Belt bought at a thrift shop

I'll finish off the look with my blush pink Chanel, my Aldo "Fawson" pumps, and my Justina Leigh "Charlie" and "Monte" Bracelet. Def no necklace with this look!
